Unlike what the song by the rock band, War, proclaimed in 1972, the world is not a ghetto... it is a silo. That means that as the pressure to develop niches and specialization increases, it is becoming more of a challenge to communicate effectively across silos each of which represent subcultures within a company or organization as well as across cultures.
If you're suffering from networking burnout it's probably because it's something you need to do, but don't want to do. It may also seem that you're putting out a lot of effort for what you get in return. Not liking doing something + not being successful at it are a recipe for burnout.

Show me someone who doesn't keep or even make New Year's Resolutions and I'll show you someone who will not follow plans and much less, often resists even making them.
If most people would agree with Franklin's quote at least intellectually, why then do they resist following a plan and in many cases even making one?
1. BE REALISTIC. Don’t confuse reasonable expectations with realistic expectations. Reasonable means “makes sense.” Realistic means “likely to happen.” It may be reasonable to stop smoking, start a new diet and begin exercising, but it may not be realistic to change all of them at once.
I recently saw the wonderful movie, 12 Years a Slave, directed by Steve McQueen. It is a true story and in it free negro, Solomon Northrup, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor is living in Saratoga Springs, NY where he is taken to Washington, D.C. under false pretenses, kidnapped and then sold into slavery.
